Hi everyone.
We hope you have all had a great Christmas and Omicron isn’t causing you to many problems with your planned New Year Celebrations….
While the whole Covid crisis has caused us a few problems over the last couple of years, we have manage to get through it all (thanks to our anti covid procedures and guests for following them) without a single outbreak connected to the farm, yurts or Lake House.
It has however made us look at our facilities on the Yurt Site and bring forward some of our plans to improve them. For the 2021 holiday season we have already set up a second kitchen on the main deck, giving us 3 in total (2 communal kitchens and 1 for Yurt 1 which was alway self contained) and split the communal bathrooms in to 2 independent facilities (each shared by 2 yurts).
We really wanted to go further and make all the yurts self contained but due issues caused by the pandemic we were only able to do so much. When the time came we were able to open 3 self contained yurts for the beginning of the holiday season.
This winter we will be completing what we started. The bathroom facilities are in the process of being split into 4 small but perfectly formed bathrooms. Each will have a small bath with shower above (ideal for washing off mucky children), hand basin and flushing toilet. This will give each of our 5 yurts their own bathroom facilities.
We are also planing to split the 2 communal kitchens into 4 (time & weather permitting) and if we are able to do this will make each of the 5 yurts self contained.
Last holiday season (2021) we were overwhelmed by people looking for a short break, especially during the peak season. With so many people looking for a short break, we could have filled the yurt site 4 or 5 times over, sadly a lot of people/families missed out on a summer break. So we are looking at the possibility adding 2 new units this year (for couples only as we don’t want to over crowed the yurt site). This might mean that the smaller yurts may have to share their facilities during the high season if we are unable to find an alternative solution.
As always we will continue to monitor the covid situation and amend our procedures accordingly. Over the last couple of years a few things that were loved by our guests sadly had to be taken away. The reasons for this were varied from legitimate concern of transmitting the virus to complete lack of knowledge/information of how the virus worked . We are now a lot further down the line and have a lot more information available to us and will be able to start returning things too as they once were.
So we will be looking to reintroduce the chickens to the yurt site (avian flu restrictions allowing – see it’s not just us poor humans suffering because of a virus) so there will once again be the chance of getting a fresh egg for breakfast (hopefully we will also be able to start selling eggs again). During the spring and early summer we hope to be able to start the building of an adventure play area, which will see the return on the much missed but much loved rope swings.
So with viruses, lateral flow tests and government restrictions permitting, we wish you a happy, prosperous and healthy New Year and look forward to seeing you in 2022.
